Beautifully restored in 2011, the Rosewood Hotel Georgia pairs modern luxury with the art deco legacy of this historic property. First opened in 1927 – and host to all manner of era scandals and celebrities – this property creates a comfortable world-away in downtown Vancouver.

hwr_van_geor_19HERS: I love this hotel; probably because I believe it loves me too.  Why else would it be so thoughtful, so perfect in all the little things?  This place (and the incredible staff) pays attention, but in a nice way.  A walk through the dark wood lobby feels less like the catwalk, and more like an admiring sidelong glance.  Whether you’re headed into Hawksworth for a see-and-be-seen martini or into the lovingly restored art deco elevators, it’s hard not to channel some relaxed, old world glamour and give your traveling companion a big screen smooch.  Big or small, the guestrooms are plush and – piece de resistance – the bathrooms are spectacular, right down to the soaker tubs, heated floors and medallion-imprinted toilet paper.  Hotel Georgia has a great (though indoor) pool and gym but, when in Rome, do as the Vancouverites – jog the seawall or work up a sweat carrying all your bags home from Robson Street shopping.  But however you earn it, don’t miss your bit of pampering at Sense, the Rosewood Spa.  The Vancouver Signature Sensation ranks among my top 5 treatments the world over, including special mention for the highest quality disposable underwear I’ve ever worn (ladies, you know what I mean).  It really is all about the little things.

HIS: Rosewood Hotel Georgia is a great spot, luxurious and cozy.  Set in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the hotel is an excellent location for exploring – close to transit, shopping and activities – and the helpful concierge staff can recommend the latest-and-greatest on Vancouver’s ever-changing food scene.  For that special night out, what newly married man would want to miss booking the Bentley, the hotel’s complimentary car service for travel in the city’s core.  Closer to home, the mixologists at Hawksworth serve up some seriously historic cocktails – don’t miss the bourbon spiced sour – alongside pork belly skewers, KFC (that’s Korean fried cauliflower, get your mind out of the culinary gutter!) and other inventive bar bites.  hwr_van_geor_17In the warmer months, the rooftop bar Reflections, surrounded by the requisite water feature, is a really unique way to take in a sunset, and some good people watching, over Vancouver’s skyline. And just because there is a lot to do in the city, don’t feel guilty about wanting to stay in the seriously comfortable hotel beds. Add restaurant-quality room service, rain forest shower fixtures, oversized bathrobes and big screen televisions (for a local hockey game or, you know, the fireplace channel) and you may never want to leave.
